- U.S. Corn in Dough stage as of July 12, 2026, was 6% (+3%) compared to 6% this week last year and 5% 5-yr average.
SOYBEAN PROGRESS
- U.S. Soybeans Blooming as of July 12, 2026, was 50% (+16%) compared to 45% this week last year and 44% 5-yr average.
- U.S. Soybeans Setting Pods as of July 12, 2026, was 19% (+10%) compared to 14% this week last year and 13% 5-yr average.
The portion of U.S. corn rated in G/E condition increased 1 point this week due to a 1-point increase in corn rated excellent. This slightly outpaced market expectations for no change in the G/E rating. The U.S. corn crop was rated 68% G/E, 6 points below last year but 2 points above the 5-year average. Soybean ratings also increased 1 point this week to 65% G/E due to a 1-point increase in the excellent rating. Soybeans rated G/E are now 5 points below last year but 2 points above the 5-year average. The soybean ratings were also slightly above market expectations.
Only 3 states with published corn ratings saw a decline in G/E rankings this week: North Carolina (-7), South Dakota (-7) and Pennsylvania (-3). Only 5 states have G/E corn ratings below their 5-year average: North Carolina (-42), Colorado (-18), Nebraska (-9), Texas (-8) and Illinois (-5). 7 states with published soybean condition ratings saw declines for the week, with 6 soybean states rated below their 5-year average.
Corn progress is now ahead of both last year and the 5-year average, with soybean progress running even farther ahead of recent averages. More hot and dry weather is on tap for many key growing areas in the coming week. While soil moisture remains adequate in many areas to withstand some drying, the need for timely rain will come by the end of the month in many areas. The market will continue to focus on weather forecasts for late July and early August.
Today’s report is slightly bearish for both corn and soybeans, as both topped market expectations with slightly improved rankings. Both crops remain above average but trail 2025 condition ratings.
